Declaration of marital union - Free union
Lawyers for declaration of marital union (free union)
In Colombia, the de facto marital union or free union is a legally recognized form of cohabitation that grants rights and responsibilities to the couples that make it up. Both heterosexual and same-sex couples have the same rights, thanks to the equality and non-discrimination guaranteed by our Constitution.
To formalize a free union in Colombia, you simply have to live together and consider each other as a stable couple. This gives you certain important rights, such as a survivor's pension, inheritance of property in the event of the death of one of the members, a disability pension, access to medical care and formation of the patrimonial society, among others.
Although it is not mandatory, it is recommended to formalize the free union through a public deed to guarantee and enforce these rights.
